Protein Shakes.

protein shakes help build muscleProtein Shakes are a very convenient way to get protein in after a hard workout.

If you've ever been to a gym then you've seen guys drinking protein shakes at the gym after a workout. Do you know why though?

The reason is because when you lift weights you make microscopic tears in your muscle fibers. Sounds bad doesn't it? Well it's actually good because that means when those microscopic tears heal, your muscles grow bigger and stronger.

Nice trade off in my opinion. The more you tear the muscles the bigger and stronger you will become.

The question is how do you get those tears to heal themselves? What do they need to grow again? The answer is protein.

So why a protein shake and not a meal?

The answer is mostly out of convenience. It's very convenient having a shake after a workout, rather than going home and cooking a meal.

Cooking a meal takes time and you'll probably be too tired after having just worked out.

Most people have lives that don't revolve around the gym. Thanks to science and people passionate about gaining muscle, we have protein powders that we can mix with water or milk and have a quick meal after the gym. They've made it easier for us to get our protein in.
